When did Motherhood become a curse?

It's a backwards and upside down world when a poor, single woman has octuplets, bringing her total to 14, and is defended by anyone and a healthy, married 22 year-old woman with plenty of money is blasted for having a single child. I understand that single mothers and other non-traditional families exist and that people should not be punished for their situations. But when did having an adult having a child in a traditional family become a bad thing?
